The Philippines’ Kanlaon volcano has erupted with a column of ash and smoke four kilometers high. Eyewitnesses are publishing footage of the eruption.
The Kanlaon volcano, located on the island of Negros, erupted on Tuesday morning.
The eruption created a “voluminous curved plume about 4,000 meters high,” according to the Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
The alert level was set at level three out of five, which remains in effect because the likelihood of further eruptions remains high.
The volcano is a tourist attraction on the island. It last erupted in December last year.
